04 – El Santo

(direct link)

I decided to go a little obscure with this week’s episode, and I think it paid off. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

  • The header image is from Santo y Blue Demon contra Los Monstruos, where Santo and his frenemy Blue Demon fight an assortment of monsters, including a wolfman, a mummy and a cyclops. It’s terrible. I love it.
  • The alien invasion film that I mentioned is El Santo contra la invasión de los marcianos. This one wasn’t dubbed into English, but seriously, don’t let that stop you from watching it.
  • In 1973, “Santo” teamed up with “Captain America” for the “totally legit” Turkish film 3 Dev Adam (3 Giant Men). “Who’s the third Dev Adam?” I assume you’re asking? A villainous Spider-Man. Low-quality versions of the film can be found easily on Youtube.
  • WWE have teamed up with animation house Hanna Barbera to bring two crossover films: Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery and The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown!, featuring classic characters such as John Cenastone, Vince McMagma and… The Undertaker. I guess it won’t be too long until we get a Jetsons crossover, right? How weird would that b- oh.
  • I mentioned the film Italian Spiderman and the show by the same team Danger 5 several times, and I highly recommend both of them. If you like the idea of 60s pulp sci-fi action and repeated attempts on Hitler’s life, then Danger 5 is the show for you. You can find it on Netflix.

That’s all for this week. Next week’s an X-tra long episode as all three of us give a mini pitch.
